Who are the Friends of the Playhouse?
Formed in 1991, we are a voluntary organisation made up of around 450 friendly, like-minded people whose aim is to support the Playhouse Theatre in all sorts of ways.
Over the years we have raised funds which have contributed to providing things like new hearing aids, a piano, lighting and sound equipment, and stage curtains. We also help to support wider fundraising projects such as the provision of a stair lift. We do this in a number of ways: provide volunteer staff to take tickets, sell programmes and welcome patrons into the theatre, assist with marketing and promotions, organise social events all year round, offer days out including theatre visits and hold weekly Saturday coffee mornings in The Playhouse. To date we have raised over £300,000.
Becoming a friend means that you can do something really worthwhile for your community and have fun in the process. It's also a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends in a welcoming environment. In return for your dedication friends are entitled to the following -
The Friends of the Playhouse also organise regular coach trips - open to both members and non-members. A reduction in price is available to members attending these trips. For more information contact playhousefriendswsm@hotmail.com
Membership forms can be collected from the Box Office. The cost of an adult annual membership is only £15 and junior memberships only £5 (under 18's). Lifetime memberships are also available priced at £100.
Once a year the Friends of The Playhouse host an Open Day where you can come and take an exclusive look behind the scenes of The Playhouse Theatre. Learn about the History of the building, explore the dressing rooms, and take centre stage!
Tours are in groups of 20 and last around 1 hour. Keep a look out on our What's On page for the 2024 Open Day information.
