As a rapidly growing division within Parkwood Holdings plc, Parkwood Theatres has an annualised turnover of £6.5m; already operating three theatre facilities in England.
Parkwood Theatres is currently a business activity within Parkwood Leisure, the largest division of Parkwood Holdings which operates over 80 leisure facilities nationwide. Parkwood Leisure employs 4,400 members of staff and manages an annual turnover of £73 million. The company operates a wide range of leisure, entertainment and sporting facilities in partnership with local authorities including; theatres, sports halls, dance studios, swimming pools, fitness gyms, health suites, tennis courts, outdoor water sports, bars, cafes and conference venues.
Parkwood Leisure secured its first dedicated theatre venue in April 2011 at the Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare. The Hawth Theatre, was awarded to the company in February 2012 by Crawley Borough Council. Having secured these two management contracts, that each span a ten-year period, a strategic decision was made to create the Parkwood Theatres brand.
The Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone was contracted to Parkwood Theatres for a 15 year period in October 2013.
In February 2019 Parkwood Theatres took over the management of The Castle Theatre in Wellingborough. They are operating this venue in partnership with the Borough Council of Wellingborough.
The aim & ambition of Parkwood Theatres is to grow our portfolio of public sector venues, supporting councils to reduce the cost of arts & culture provision in their respective localities. This will be achieved working in partnership with local government to increase admissions, the quality of the programme and participation at venues.
