The Wind in the Willows - Stockbury

ABOUT

The Hazlitt Theatre’s Open Air Summer Tour returns to Stockbury Playing Field on Tuesday 19 August for another Summer adventure! Get your £5 ticket, grab a picnic and join us for the ultimate family tale of friendship… Wind in the Willows!

This August join Mole, Ratty and Badger on their great adventures with Mr Toad. Based on the book by Kenneth Grahame, this laugh out loud play will have the whole family in stitches.

Bored of Spring cleaning, Mr Mole ventures onto the River Bank in search of new adventures. Alongside Ratty, they meet Badger and make their way to the grand Toad Hall. There, they meet Mr Toad - a thrill seeker with a need for speed.

Can Mole, Ratty and Badger keep Mr Toad out of the fast lane, or will his speedy antics land them in serious trouble? With Toad Hall on the line, there is only one way to find out…

Join us on Tuesday 19 August on Stockbury Playing Field for the fifth annual Hazlitt Open Air Summer tour - bigger and better than ever in the Hazlitt Theatre’s 70th year!

With all tickets £5, or family of 4 tickets for £15, everybody is welcome. Bring your own picnic, seating and shade (or rain shelter!) for this tale of epic adventure, set against some of Maidstone's most scenic outdoor venues.

The Hazlitt Open Air Summer Tour brings professional touring theatre to your doorstep. Make the most of your local green spaces and join the community to experience theatre like never before this August. From the team that brought you Alice in Wonderland, Treasure Island and The Three Musketeers, get ready for Wind in the Willows!

About The Hazlitt Open Air Summer Tour

Every year, we take a classic family tale on tour to outdoor community spaces around Maidstone. Since 2021, we have visited places like Cobtree Manor Park in Aylesford, Little Fant Farm in East Farleigh and Bearsted Green, as well as new additions to the tour like Bredhust and Tithe Barn in Lenham.

These performances take place outside, with unreserved ground seating. Please bring your own seating arrangements like picnic blankets (if you want to be close to the action), or foldable camping chairs (permitted in a dedicated chair section at the back of the seating area). Audiences are welcome to bring snacks and drinks - but be careful of those cheeky actors! We kindly ask audiences to take all rubbish with them when leaving our performances.

Performances are approximately 1 hour with no interval. All performances are Relaxed Performances. This means that audience members are welcome to move about during the performance, but please be mindful of those around you. All ages are welcome, but please note that performances are straight through with no interval.

Toilets will be open at all venues on the Open Air Summer Tour. Access and parking is dependent on the venue. Please contact the venue for more details.

Our summer tour continues to be generously funded by Maidstone Borough Council. For further details, contact communications@maidstone.gov.uk or call 01622 602560. We can't wait to be back on the road for our fifth annual Open Air Summer Tour! Running 16-23 August 2025.
